Adopt A Street

Adopt A Street is simple and wonderful!

At least once a week, pray for the people, homes, businesses or institutions of your adopted street with this simple prayer: "Father, I pray peace, blessing and salvation for ______________ in Jesus' name."

We want to develop and database so that we can keep track of the streets that are being prayed for. Would you please let Glenn Duncan know that you have adopted a street by calling the KYU office at (705) 743-2900 or emailing khop@youthunlimitedkaw.com .

Thank you for praying for your neighbours and our city.

For those of you who don't mind reading...

...below you will find why we are encouraging you to Adopt A Street and the next steps to take to befriend your neighbours and to help them to get to know Jesus in Person.

Kawartha House Of Prayer and Church In The City are encouraging Christians to pray for our city. We want to have the people, businesses and institutions of our city prayed for at least once a week. Would you adopt a street, preferably the street where you live, to pray for the people around you?

We are taking Luke 10:1-9 as our guide for prayer. Jesus tells us that people are ready to come to faith in God through Him and that we are to ask God to raise up believers who will actively reach out to these precious people.

Luke 10:5-9 reads: "When you enter a house, first say, 'Peace to this house.' If someone who promotes peace is there, your peace will rest on them; if not, it will return to you. Stay there, eating and drinking whatever they give you, for the worker deserves his wages. Do not move around from house to house."When you enter a town and are welcomed, eat what is offered to you. Heal the sick who are there and tell them, 'The kingdom of God has come near to you.'

Part 1 - Jesus tells us to pray God's blessing for people in verse 5. So here is what to pray for your neighbours while walking or driving or even while in your own home:

"Father, I pray peace, blessing and salvation for this family (or business, etc.) in Jesus' name."

Please pray this for every household or the people of every business or institution on your adopted street at least once a week.

Part 2 - When people welcome us, Jesus says we are to eat what they offer us in verse 8. Jesus is saying that we are to build relationship with them. As you pray a prayer of blessing for your neighbours, stop and talk to them whenever you have the opportunity. Get to know them by name. Show a genuine interest in them. Ask God to put His love for them in your heart.

Part 3 - Jesus tells us to heal the sick in verse 9. As you grow in relationship with your neighbours, you will begin to see some of the needs and concerns of their lives. Whatever their needs are, pray for God's presence and help in their lives. Let them know that you are praying for them and asking for God's blessing for them. When they know you are praying for them and that God is meeting their needs, they will begin to see that God loves you and also loves them.

Part 4 - Jesus says we are to tell our neighbours that the Kingdom of God has come in verse 9. At this point we are not just explaining the Gospel, we are sharing the best news possible with people who have become our friends. They will want to get to know this God who loves them and the Holy Spirit will help you to talk with them.
